How can I exercise in the winter?
As the weather gets colder, getting the right amount of exercise can be difficult. Follow these tips to stay active and healthy through the cold winter months!
Do fun winter activities such as jogging, hiking, or snowshoeing
Dress warmly, making sure to wear layers of clothing and hats, gloves, and scarves if necessary
If the weather is too cold, do indoor activities such as yoga, or even active housework
Remember that exercise will boost your immunity and keep you more protected during flu season
What kind of exercise should I be doing?
How do I know if I'm working out at the "Moderate-intensity" level?
The American Heart Association recommends the "conversation test".
If you can sing while you're exercising, you're probably not working hard enough.
If you can easily carry on a full conversation while exercising, you're probably not working hard enough.
If you can easily talk in short sentences but not a comfortable or long conversation, then you're probably working out at just the right intensity.
If you get out of breath quickly and short sentences are a strain, you're probably working too hard
** Remember to start slow and build up your exercise activities over time. If you have a complex or chronic condition, ask your doctor before starting any exercise regimen.
